This novel was a little better than a thought actually It was cheesy at the beginning but turned into a decent Historical Romance that actually had at least some sense of the period Which is not to say there were no historical issues or inaccuracies I spotted a few The main one was the continual reference to Welsh people as 'Celtic' Whilst this might be technically correct the term 'Celtic' did not exist in the 13th century its not recorded until the mid 17th century and the notion of 'Celtic' people or solidarity certainly did not exist at that time The Welsh were called simply Welsh or Cymry in the Welsh language When reading Medieval Welsh text one also gets the distinct impression that far from being a single people unified in dreams of 'freedom' the Welsh were actually their own worst enemies and were usually attacking one another Or engaged in constant internecine warfare Anyways in terms of the stroryline this wasn't too bad It comes over as a relatively simple story of an ambitious Lord but treachery and intrigue comes into it and the heroine is not the perfect beauty that one often sees but proves to be stronger than she thinks There's even some spying a few times as well as a suitably dashing hero who is not all he appears It was also a refreshing chance to see King Edward I Longshanks presented as a sympathetic character for a change The religious content is good and not heavy handed although the treatment of religion is uite conspicuously modern for the time period Insistence on saying prayers in the vernacular etc I mean seriously the Lord's Prayer wasn't something that would have seemed uniue or amazing to Medieval Catholics They said it all the time they called it the Paternoster This is worth a read and in the Kindle edition there's even a short bonus story at the end
