This one just fell so flat for me I enjoyed the other books in the series but I was bored midway through this one It felt choppy and I couldn't connect with these two at all Hoping Clint's book is better Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews45 starsThis is only the second book I've read in Sloan Johnson's Homeruns series but after reading it I will go back and read the two I've missed While I'd love to say that gay athletes are now welcome in professional sports the truth of the matter is that's not always the case but in author Sloan Johnson's world they have a much better world to live in than most This book shows us young love between a rookie pitcher and a young man who was taken in by some professional athletes after being disowned by his family the heartbreak of letting go even when it was for the best a not so joyful reunion four years later and the building of a relationship as they let go of the past and look to the future It also shows the harsh realities of playing in the minor leagues the politics that go on behind the scenes and the strain of maintaining a relationship during the season There were a lot of highs and a lot of lows in this book but that is what I loved about it Sweet Spot was about the love of the game of baseball but it was also about the perseverance it takes to be successful both on the field and in the game of lifeFour years after a very brief but very passionate affair Nick Stone finds Cody Marshall is now an intern with Milwaukee Mavericks the major league team Nick hopes he will one day be a part of Nick finally sees his chance to apologize and make things right with Cody but four years and a whole lot of hurt have made Cody stronger and Nick soon finds out that apologizing may be harder than he expectedThere was a very interesting dynamic between Nick and Cody and given their past that was expected but it was than that With Cody working for the PR department of team where Nick's father is the GM there is to their friendship and eventual relationship that just them Given that the men that have helped Cody are all in some way connected to the team also adds to the complications but somehow these to manage to figure things out They struggle throughout this book first with trying to keep their relationship a secret and then with the separation that comes from them both traveling for their jobs with different teams At times Nick made me a little crazy with his insistence to do everything on his own and even his petulance at being passed over for a spot in AAA ball but I could also understand his frustration at the situation Cody for the most part was a rock very even keel and although younger than Nick a bit mature about things I appreciated that they were both there for each other when they needed a boost and that despite their separation and a few moments of doubt they were pretty solid It helped that they both had people around them to give them a pep talk or some tough love when they needed itWhat surprised me most about this story was Nick's father Marcus who not only accepted his son was gay but supported him thoroughly I guess that shouldn't have surprised me given the fact that several of his team members are gay but it was nice to see a parent whose child's sexuality was a non issueI'll admit at times I felt a bit lost because I hadn't read the other two books in the series and I think especially the third book would have given me a bit insight to some of the things that happened in this book but overall this is a standalone storyThe struggles the sweetness the emotions and the sexiness all made the Sweet Spot a homerun for meReview copy provided for an honest review ARC received for an honest reviewmm? CheckSports stars? CheckSecond chance romance? CheckSeems that Sweet Spot really does tick a lot of boxes for meI have adored each and every book in the Home Run series to date and I have to say the title is exactly what book number 4 is It is sweetNick and Cody's spring fling has been over for 4 years but neither has forgotten those weeksNow years down the track their paths have crossed again and as much as they want to deny it that attraction that spark that want is still thereOh my heart broke for them both when their paths crossed again Cody for all the hurt that he went through when Nick left and Nick for knowing that he caused the pain all the regrets he has held onto for yearsCody and Nick both fell hard back then but now their hearts could be absolutely obliterated if things don't go wellI loved that as much as this is their story it tells us to also follow your dreams Follow your passion Follow your heart And if you are lucky they will lead you back to where you really want to beI loved how Nick's relationship with his father blossomed through his story I could understand why Nick would try to distance himself from his father but was so happy where they endedI loved that we got of the boys from the earlier books in the series Adore Adore Adore Sean and Mason than ever But each and every one of that extended family feel like they are part of my family Cody and Nick's story had a gritty feel to it Their relationship their problems the hurdles they crossed all had a realism to themSloan Johnson has hit another home run with Sweet Spot and I can't wait to see what she brings us next A wonderful book that teaches a valuable life lesson I really enjoyed the realistic portrayal of how difficult life is for minor league players and the impact that has on the lives of not only the players but those who love them I instantly connected to the leading men and was cheering them on as they struggled to not only get over a rocky past but forge a bright future The bedroom scenes were toasty hot and the dialog crisp I'm looking forward to reading from Ms Johnson soon Another great romanceLoved this story It was great seeing how Cody and Nick came back together worked through there issues and got over conflicts The ending was sweet and perfect Sweet Spot is the fourth book in the Homeruns Series and I have loved each and every one of them Sloan has hit another Homerun with this one as well Her writing sucks me in and I don't want to walk away until it's over Even then I want I love all the characters They are definitely a family that sticks together I knew that before but in Sweet Spot it was important than ever I met Cody in Triple Play so I was excited that he was getting his own story with Nick a triple A baseball player determined to make it to the bigsIt's been 4 years since Nick walked away from Cody They fell hard and fast during a two week period of spring training for the Mavericks' Triple A team Nick spent his days on the baseball field and Cody spent his working towards graduation But their nights were spent together away from everyone and everything They were in their bubble until it burst Nick was a 20 year player that had to prove to himself and to the league that he wasn't only on the field because his father was the Mavericks' GM And lately he was losing focus He needed to keep his head in the game without distractions He had to let Cody go And now four years later he was face to face once again with the only man that ever had his heart He should be surprised to see Cody again since he does after all live with Mavericks' players but to see him on the team bus during spring training was a shock to his system and to every last muscle in his bodyCody has followed Nick's career He knew he would see him at some point during the six weeks he was taking pictures for the team as the social media coordinator but he didn't know how he would actually feel when he saw him He should hate him for what he did four years ago but he doesn't They were young kids back then but now was a different story and when Nick said he wanted to be friends again he was torn He knew he couldn't be friends with Nick he would want Could he really trust Nick not to walk away again if they started a relationship? Nick regretted what he did to Cody and was determined to prove that he could be trusted He was still working his ass off to get to the Bigs but he was older and needed to know if he could have both of his dreams become reality He was told by many that he was a great player but needed to work on his head game He was thinking too much And he found that instead of Cody being a distraction he was his calmness but would it last past spring training? They could be headed in totally different directions in the end And could Nick get it out of his head that he is one amazing player and not just there because of his father? I love Cody and Nick They are so cute funny supportive and so damn lovable The way they are together is what couple goals are all about So adorable It was great to catch up with the rest of the Mavericks and their loves I can't wait to see who is next up when it comes to the series uotes “Trust me he’s great eye candy but the boy has issues than the archives at the library”If you don’t stop to think about what you want outside the park there’s no way you’ll survive within it”“Good because I’m not in the mood to play nice” Cody slid his arm around my waist and pressed into my side “And I love it when you want to be naughty” I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked ReadsNick and Cody met when they were young They fell for each other uick It was taking moments when they could at spring training Nick was early in his baseball career He was still fighting for his place even though he was the son of the GM he wanted to make it on his own He had to work harder throw harder and focus harder than his competition He didn't want anyone saying he had a hand getting to the big leagues That meant cut out any distraction in his life Cody included When Nick decided Cody couldn't be a distraction the break up was uick Cody was devastated It took him a long time to get over Nick to be able to live a normal life When he accepts an internship with the Mavericks he knows there is the possibility to see Nick It will be hard be Cody is determined not to let Nick's presence get to him until Nick asks for a chance to apologize Nick wants Cody to know how sorry he is Cody wants Nick to see he's unaffected until he isn't Can they make it work again? Is Cody willing to risk his heart? Will Nick keep his priorities straight realizing there is to life than baseball?I enjoyed this new Maverick's book I love seeing the past characters in snippets seeing how there lives are moving on Ms Johnson got me again with this one I found it to be emotional and at one point was almost brought to tears At times the story did slow down for me but I knew to hang on that it would grab me again and it did I like to progression of Cody and Nick's relationship and the fight they had in front of them The relationship wasn't easy but it was worth it and those are the best kind of reads I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads I am a really big fan of sports romances and this series of MM ones is very very good I highly recommend that you read them from the beginning so as to not miss out on a whole heap of hotness however if you want to dip a toe in then this is not a bad place to start A big part to this story is the way that one's own head can cause trouble than really exists and how easy it is to deny oneself happiness for fear of doing the 'wrong' thing Nick is so worried he will be judged due to his father's position and so sure he would disapprove of his sexual preferences that he sticks his head in the sand and lives a lesser life because of it Cody was a casualty of those fears before and really isn't sure if he can put his heart in such a vulnerable position again Watching these two men grow up grow brighter and create a really hopeful future makes for a very hot passionate and heartwarming story Having friends around them that we've met in previous books is the icing on the cake Thank you again Ms Johnson a great addition to the series ☆☆Reviewed for Hooked On Books and CherryOBlossoms Promotions ☆ ☆ I gave this book 45 stars While there was off the charts chemistry between Cody and Nick there is a life lesson in here to If you keep at your dreams one day you will achieve them I love how the secondary characters help make this book The storyline had a realism feel and some pretty Hot scenes It did take me a few chapters to get into it but once I did I couldn't put it downFour years ago it took no time at all for Cody Marshall to fall for the rookie pitcher at spring training While their lives were nothing alike Cody understood Nick Stone's insecurities and pain And then Nick left Eventually Cody found his own passion and landed a dream internship with the Mavericks His life was finally turning around And then Nick came backJust like the first time they met Cody finds himself falling for Nick Unfortunately Nick is still plagued by the belief that he is where he is because of his father If they're ever going to make it Cody has to prove to Nick that his success has little to do with his name and everything to do with his drive to succeedTwo men both close to having everything they've wanted Will they be able to find the sweet spot between dreams and desire? I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked ReadsI could waffle on about the lovely romance between Cody and Nick and how they work to get over mistakes of their past but for me the highlight of this story is Nick's struggle to make it to the majors Being the son of the club's General Manager Nick doesn't want any unfair treatment because of who is father is It is a huge hurdle for him to overcome because he isn't getting unfair treatment and his own paranoia about the issue is holding him back Nick's struggle to get to where he wants to be had me in tears and I felt every emotion every frustration right along with himI loved Nick and Cody and I loved seeing the struggle of the younger ball player that we get in Sweet Spot After spending the time with the guys from this series I want to go back to the beginning and read them all again
